La Sociedad Protección Mutua de Trabajadores Unidos (SPMDTU) was honored at the 24th Annual César Chávez Peace and Justice Committee of Denver Celebration on Saturday, April 5, 2025, for its remarkable 125 years of service dedicated to cultural preservation, community engagement, and workers’ rights advocacy. This recognition aligns with the values of social justice championed by César Chávez. The SPMDTU was celebrated alongside Hermano Martín Gonzales, retired District Judge of Colorado’s 12th Judicial District Court and member of Alamosa Concilio 19.
The award acknowledges the legacy of protecting the rights of Hispanic communities, particularly in the areas of education, cultural heritage, and mutual aid. It also highlights the SPMDTU’s ongoing efforts and Martin Gonzales’ dedication to preserving the Alamosa School Desegregation Case’s historical significance. These awards showcase the profound impact the organization’s members have had on civil rights movements, underscoring its deep commitment to social justice.
